China strengthens road supervision over leisure electric tricycles; official catalogue compliance becomes mandatory

Traffic authorities in Jiangsu, Anhui, Henan, Sichuan and other regions issued new rules in August to strengthen road inspections on semi‑enclosed leisure electric tricycles with canopies. Models not included in MIIT vehicle catalogue are forbidden from registration and road use. For bulk procurement projects of senior‑care communities and tourist scenic spots, complete MIIT approval and 3C certificates are mandatory. Non‑compliant OEM products are excluded from bidding, pushing manufacturers to phase out non‑standard capacity. The market share of compliant leisure models keeps growing.
