EU Updates Revised EN 15194 Standard, Three Mandatory Safety Tests Added for Imported Leisure Vehicles (Overseas)

2026-07-21

The European Committee for Standardization enforced the revised EN 15194 regulation for leisure electric vehicles in July, tightening access thresholds for imported leisure two-wheelers and low-speed sightseeing tricycles. Three new mandatory tests are introduced: vehicle anti-tilt stability, lithium battery thermal runaway protection and IPX5 full-vehicle waterproof performance.

Customs inspection rates in Germany, France and the Netherlands rose to 70%. Leisure vehicles without updated CE and UN38.3 dual certifications will be detained and returned directly. European local brands require a 3-month certification cycle, while inquiries for fully compliant Chinese leisure vehicles jumped 57% month-on-month, with customized camping and retirement community models topping European buyers’ procurement lists.
