South American Countries Launch Localized Production of Electric Three-Wheeler Canopies, Policy Dividends Activate Regio

2026-01-16
In January 2026, Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia simultaneously announced the launch of localized production plans for electric three-wheeler canopies. By attracting enterprise layout through policies such as tax reductions and production capacity subsidies, they are promoting the electrification transformation of short-distance transportation tools in the region, marking that the South American market has officially become a new blue ocean in the global electric three-wheeler canopy industry. Previously, the South American market mainly relied on imports for electric three-wheeler canopies; after the launch of localized production, the terminal price is expected to decrease by 25%-30%, further stimulating consumer demand.
This localized production focuses on people's livelihood scenarios, mainly covering two types of electric three-wheeler canopies: passenger shuttles and cargo delivery, which are suitable for narrow urban streets and complex rural road conditions in South America. Brazilian automaker CAOA has partnered with a Chinese battery enterprise to develop a passenger model with a cruising range of 120 kilometers, equipped with an anti-ultraviolet tempered glass canopy and hydraulic shock absorption system, balancing comfort and durability. Argentina, in collaboration with local auto parts manufacturers, has launched a delivery-type canopy with a load capacity of 500 kilograms, featuring a detachable and assembled design for easy navigation through slums and old town alleys.
At the policy level, Brazil exempts locally produced electric three-wheeler canopies from the 17% Industrial Products Tax, Argentina provides a production subsidy of up to 1,200 US dollars per vehicle, and Colombia includes electric three-wheeler canopies in the new energy vehicle subsidy catalog, allowing them to use bus lanes. The industry expects that with the release of localized production capacity, sales of electric three-wheeler canopies in South America will exceed 150,000 units in 2026, with localized models accounting for over 60%. Meanwhile, it will drive the development of upstream and downstream industrial chains such as batteries and motors, creating more than 20,000 jobs.
